I love shopping. And I love the feeling of finding a great deal and feeling like “oh my word I basically got this for free!” What a steal. I remember when I was little my aunt and I would go out shopping at 4 in the morning on Black Friday. I didn’t have any money back then, so it was just about having fun to me!
And isn’t that what the holidays are supposed to be about? Having fun, and spending time with loved ones? Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like every year there are more and more things in my face about “this deal” and “why I should buy this thing” I don’t need and don’t know anyone else who needs it either.
Why is it that around the season things are supposed to be about possessions the least, it’s becoming what we think about the most?
On Thanksgiving day, instead of spending time with their families, people are going to work so that the stores they work at can make as much money as possible.
I’m trying to care less about possessions. So even though I would really like to get something I can’t think of right now, but I might find it Black Friday shopping, I’m just going to do without. I probably have it in one my unpacked boxes anyway…
We decided that instead of shopping for things we don’t need, with money we don’t have, we’d take the simpler (and cheaper) route, and go along with REI to #optoutside
We’re not better people than others just because we did, and I don’t want to sound like I’m high and mighty because we decided we didn’t want to go Black Friday shopping this year, I’m just sharing my thoughts.
So if you went, I hope you found some good deals and had a lot of fun! And hopefully you went with family and had a great time, because isn’t that what this season is about?
